Edo Election ’24: APC/PDP/LP Assumed Acceptability by Campaign Grounds Numbers

The numbers seen at campaign grounds can sometimes give an impression of a party's acceptability or support, but they aren't always a reliable indicator of actual electoral outcomes. Crowd sizes can be influenced by factors like location, mobilization efforts, and event timing.

For the Edo 2024 election, all the parties concerned, Labour Party (LP), the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) are likely to focus on turning these crowd numbers into actual votes, but it's important to remember that a large turnout at a rally doesn't necessarily translate to electoral success.

The truth is; at a time when people are struggling to survive from day-to-day, campaign rallies can offer an escape from the realities of the struggle to make ends meet. The Jamboree-like campaign rallies often serve as an opportunity for the masses to mingle, banter and catch a glimpse of party candidates as that may be the only time that they would get to see them in the flesh and at close quarters.

Often, when the campaigns are over, and the election dusts are settled; these party candidates who now pretend to care so much about the people, disappear into the government house and become enstranged from the people, divorced from the pains and struggles that the people expect them to ameliorate.

Another reason why some campaign rallies have a large number of people is because of the masses hope that some sort of largesse will come from the candidates to help them see out another day for themselves and their respective families. Thus, often, you would find that the same people who had turned out for one party's campaign rally, would also be seen at the other party's campaign rally groundground expecting handouts for "Stomach infrastructure". This makes it truly impossible to say for a fact, how popular or accepted a party's candidate is with the masses.

Unless an obvious empty rally ground during political campaigns; it is safe to say that following the aforementioned; any party can lay claim to being the most widely accepted amongst the populace.
What is certain to determine that, to some extent, (as the capacity of a party to rig elections is also a critical determining factor) is the final ballot counts after the election. We have seen many times over, that the enthusiasm with which people throng campaign grounds often peter out on the day of election for various reasons.

In conclusion, discerning political analysts know that although politics is a game of numbers; it is certainly not the numbers garnered at campaign grounds, but rather how that translates into votes for their respective candidates. September 21 will reveal which party's candidate actually has the numbers.
